Five Epiphanies: Intuitive Insights from the Study of Physics
Threaded through Romey’s story in Backbeat: A Novel of Physics
is a general and sometimes detailed explanation of many principles
of relativity and quantum physics. Though the book's "waveform"
hypothesis is only a literary device, the concepts that form its
basis provide a way to present the world and the human condition
in the language of energy. As a result, the reader shares with Romey
not only an orphan's plight, but also his five epiphanies, or intuitive
insights from an understanding of quantum physics:
1.
Possibility --Infinite possibility created the universe of energy
2.
Connectivity --Energy waves superimpose as interconnected waveforms
3.
Uncertainty --Waveforms exist in the quantum uncertainty as probabilities
4.
Probability --Probability waves collapse in a spontaneous or causal
event
5.
Spontaneity --Spontaneous energy ensures a natural state of creativity
In Backbeat: A Novel of Physics, human action is phrased
in the fledgling language of physics. Characters are oscillating
waves intimately connected to every other character. Plot lines
superimpose for destructive or constructive outcomes. The natural
state of quantum probability provides people with the opportunity
to act causally or spontaneously. Fear is lessened with the realization
that all energy is ultimately conserved: birth, life, and death
are wave transformations within the infinite possibility some call
the universe, others simply call God.
While some characters in Backbeat remain trapped in a causal destiny,
Romey's choice is to collapse the mysterious waveform started with
the murder of his enigmatic guardian, Frank Whirlpool. With Romey's
act of courage, he and the reader gain a high probability of finding
in the wake of this intricate and mysterious waveform a creative
and healing physics. Or as Romey's mother puts it, a physics of
love.
